Music Therapy is described in many ways. It is a process which uses musical and sound exchanges to 'talk' within a therapeutic relationship. The aims of the music therapist include working towards improving communication, health and well-being for his or her client.
Music Therapy programs may include: musical conversations (improvisations),
writing songs together; singing and voicework to free the voice, listening
to selected music with personal meaning, self expression through drumming and
percussion, and moving to music. The course now includes African drumming.

In 2001, the CREA Music Therapy Clinic was established to provide Music Therapy services to students in training and the general public. Registered Music Therapists at the clinic offer both individual and group sessions in Music Therapy and activities are tailored to meet individual needs.
Clients of Music Therapy do not need to have any musical training; they come from all walks of life, all ages, and include those with special needs or disabilities as well as those who simply want to reconnect with their creativity and facilitate personal development. The Clinic also takes Music Therapists to clients on offsite projects.
Inquiries about the clinic offerings can be made to Belinda Keevers at Belinda.Keevers@uts.edu.au.

This stimulating night of personal accounts, video presentations and live music was held on Friday 20th September. The keynote speaker was Dr Ruth Bright, one of the first Music Therapists in Australia and a pioneer in psychiatric Music Therapy and working with grief. Other presentations covered working with the elderly and those with disabilities, and reconnecting with creativity in the worried well population. Over 60 people attended this event and funds raised will go to the development of the CREA Music Therapy Clinic on campus.
